A student was caught posing as another HSC student and appearing for the exam on Wednesday at Nirmala Niketan College in Churchgate.

The ‘dummy student’ was posing as a private candidate from Jai Hind College. However, he was caught when the exam supervisor found that the signature did not tally and inspected his hall ticket.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the supervisor became suspicious when he inspected the student’s hall ticket after the signature and found that the picture too did not match the student.

An education official from South Zone said, “The student on the hall ticket is from Jai Hind College, and we are yet to get details on who the dummy student was. We have initiated action against the students.”

Nirmala Niketan College, which is also the main custodian centre for the area, informed the board officials immediately. “The custodian centre has filed a first information report (FIR) with the police. The ‘dummy student’ is in police custody,” the official said.

RR Bhise, secretary of the Maharashtra State Board Mumbai Division, said, “We were just informed about it. We have asked the centre in charge to start the procedure against the dummy student.”

This is the second time that a dummy student has been caught during the board examinations this year. In a similar incident, last week on March 2, a student was caught appearing for the SSC examination in Panth Nagar, Ghatkopar.
