Ratnaprabha Jagtap, chairperson of the women and child development committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), finally signed on the dotted lines on Wednesday, clearing the way for the appointment of the city chief health officer.

The proposal was pending for the last three weeks for want of her signature. Speaking to the media, Jagtap claimed that she
had signed the proposal on Friday. However, according to sources in the PMC, the proposal was signed on Wednesday, after the issue was highlighted by the media.

The post that carries the responsibility of city’s health is vacant for past two years, ever since the then incumbent, Dr Pramod Dhaigude, resigned from the post. Dr RR Pardeshi is holding the office as acting incharge of the health department since March 2009.

After the PMC administration proposed to make a regular appointment of a chief health officer, it conducted interviews for the post and selected Pardeshi in January 2011.
