Stating that people without knowledge and intellect were coming into politics and enjoying important public positions, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray said his party would conduct thorough interviews while choosing its candidates for the upcoming municipal corporation elections.

“Dumb and underserving people are given important portfolios in the cabinet. Even a clerk has to give an exam and qualify to get the post; but this is not applicable to ministers. What we need at present are able candidates,” he said.

Addressing state transport employees at a meet organised by the
MNS, he said although money (to contest election) and education
were important criteria, people who wished to contest municipal elections should at least know how the civic bodies function.
Thorough interviews would be conducted from December 10 onwards to select candidates for the elections, he added.
