The newly elected deputy chief minister dismissed talks of a regional imbalance since both he and chief minister-designate Prithivraj Chavan hail from Western Maharashtra.
Ajit Pawar, who was chosen to lead the NCP legislature party and is set to take over as the next deputy chief minister of the state today dismissed talks of a regional imbalance since both he and chief minister-designate Prithivraj Chavan hail from Western Maharashtra.
"We are not here to work for the interests of only Baramati and Karad. The progress and development of the entire state is our priority and you would see it in the days to come," Pawar told reporters after he replaced Chhagan Bhujbal as the leader of the NCP legislature party.
Pawar represents the Baramati assembly constituency, while Chavan has been a three-time MP from Karad in Satara district and later a two-time Rajya Sabha member.
"As chief minister and deputy chief minister, we represent the entire state and not just our home towns," he said rubbishing talks of a regional imbalance.
Pawar said in 2003, Sushilkumar Shinde and Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil as chief Minister and deputy chief minister also hailed from the same district (Solapur).
The deputy chief minister-designate said he has been in active politics for over 20 years and a minister holding various departments.
Besides, Prithviraj Chavan has been minister in the prime minister's office for six years and handled several important issues facing the country, effortlessly, he said.
Pawar expressed confidence that under the leadership of Prithviraj Chavan, Maharashtra would benefit immensely, given his vast experience in administration at the Central level.
"Issues concerning Maharashtra are national issues and Chavan's experience would be useful," he said.
