Thane police on Saturday night rescued an eight-year-old boy who was kidnapped from near his residence three days ago. Two youths, including a school student with a criminal record, have been arrested in the case. The accused allegedly wanted to start a cyber cafe with the ransom.

According to Prashant Burde, additional commissioner of police, Thane, one of the accused, Krishnakumar Gurswami Naidu, 15, is a student of a private school in Dombivli, while Vishal Puran Jain, 19, is a history-sheeter.

Prince, son of a Dombivli resident and marble merchant, Rajendrakumar Jain, was kidnapped on October 22 while playing in the society premises. When he did not return home till late at night, Prince’s father informed Dombivli police. At around 11 pm, a caller, who identified himself as Rajendrakumar, told Jain that his son had been kidnapped. Two hours later, he called again to demand Rs1 crore as ransom. Thereafter, the ransom seeker called several times, and during his last call on Saturday, October 24, he settled for Rs30 lakh, and asked Jain to bring the money in denomination of Rs1,000 notes.

Meanwhile, on assistant commissioner of police Marotrao Takle’s behest, police traced the calls and found that the caller was using different PCOs in Dombivli. On October 24, the caller asked Jain to bring the cash near Hotel Dwarka in Dombivli. Acting on the information, inspector Rahulkumar Yewale from the Crime Branch, along with inspector Ramdas Shinde from Dombivli police station, trapped Naidu when he was accepting the ransom from Jain. After interrogating him, police arrested Jain from a shop in Dombivli. Police found Prince on the loft in the shop and also found an empty gunny bag and a rope. “The accused might have planned to kill Prince if they had failed to get the money,” said Burde.

According to the police, Jain  is a relative of Prince’s family.  He had hatched the plan to kidnap the boy about a month ago with the help of Naidu, whom he knew for long.
