The very first batch of students from the two civic colleges set up by an IIT joint entrance exam (IIT-JEE) coaching centre would be appearing for their exams on Sunday, April 10. Around 70 students from the underprivileged section of the society who took admissions to the junior science college run by the coaching centre will attempt their JEE. It is for the first time, that a larger group of students who have completed their schooling in civic schools in the city are appearing for their JEE.

The then civic commissioner, Jairaj Phatak, had supported the proposal made by the IITians Pace, a coaching institute, which specialises in training students for engineering entrance exams. The coaching centre, then with the permission of the state government, set up two junior science colleges in Mulund and Dadar -Ratanbai Walbai Junior College and Bhavani Shankar Road Junior College respectively.
