CCTV catches maid stealing cash from Tardeo office

When interior decorator Jerry D’Cunna noticed that someone had been taking cash from his drawer at his Tardeo office for the last 15 days, he decided to take action and nab the culprit.

The proprietor of D’Cunna & Associates at Ghaswala Estate then got a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera set up inside his office.

On August 2, when he reached his office in the morning he found that an envelope containing Rs20,000, which  he had kept in his drawer the earlier night, was missing.

He then checked the CCTV footage and was shocked to find that the culprit was the maid, Sangeeta Katkade, 32, who used to clean the office premises every morning.

After he lodged a complaint against Katkade with the Tardeo police, they arrested her on Friday. During interrogation, Katkade reportedly confessed that she used to steal cash from her employer’s drawer using a duplicate set of keys.

“We recovered Rs18,800 cash and the duplicate set of keys from her house at Kranti Nagar at Tardeo,” said police inspector Deepak Patil of the Tardeo police station.
