The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the CBI on Friday raided the office and residence of a senior doctor in the Central Railway hospital in Byculla. According to the CBI, Dr Savita Gangude, head of the nephrology department, allegedly misused her official position for personal gains.

Gangude, said the CBI, took commission for ordering medicines and equipment from an Andheri-based pharmaceutical company, Baxter India Limited.

“We raided her official quarters and office and also the premises of the pharma company. Her fraudulent activities have resulted in a loss amounting to several lakhs to the government,” said Pravin Salunkhe, deputy inspector general, ACB, CBI.

During preliminary inquiry, it came to the fore that in every order that was placed with the pharmaceutical company, Gangude would demand a commission of at least 15%.

The doctor has been booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. “We are collecting evidence against her. Based on that, we will arrest her,” added Salunkhe.
