The National Cadet Corps (NCC), belonging to the second Maharashtra Battalion, took part in a ‘save the girl child’ rally on Saturday morning.

The rally was flagged off by wife of Col GK Pandey, group commander of the NCC, at 9 am from the NCC centre at the Senapati Bapat Road in which 325 cadets took part.

The cadets, both boys and girls, walked 6.5 km from their centre-via the JM Road-Modern High School-Fergusson College- BMCC and back. Col Saxena, camp incharge told DNA, “The primary objective of the rally is to build awareness to save the girl child and the cancerous spread of female foeticide.’

According to Col Saxena, rallies such as these were undertaken to sensitise NCC cadets about the social service and community development.

The cadets who carried banners denouncing female foeticide seemed excited to take part in the rally. A girl cadet said, “There is no past, present or future without a girl. Our president is a lady and girls should participate in every walk of life. I am proud to be a NCC cadet.”
