Businessmen duped of Rs15 lakh by conman in Mumbai

Oshiwara police, on Saturday, arrested a conman posing as Bollywood film producer, financer and film investor, who duped a Delhi-based businessman to the tune of Rs15 lakh by promising him loan of Rs16 crore from a bank to expand his business.

Oshiwara police, on Saturday, arrested a conman posing as Bollywood film producer, financer and film investor, who duped a Delhi-based businessman to the tune of Rs15 lakh by promising him loan of Rs16 crore from a bank to expand his business.

“The conman was identified as Ajay Yadav, 45, resident of Oshiwara in Andheri (W), was booked under sections 420 (Cheating) and 406 (Criminal breach of trust) of IPC, has been remanded to police custody till April 8, “ said senior police inspector DK Rupawate of Oshiwara police station.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Yadav, who hails from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, used to stay at a well furnished flat in Pearl Apartments at Oshiwara on rent. He also set up an office at his flat, added Rupawate.

Rupawate further said that Deepak Viz, a noted businessman who had chain of hotels in Delhi needed a loan of Rs16 crore to expand his business. In December 2010, he came across an advertisement stating that one Mumbai-based Ajay Yadav, a loan agent, helps get loans at lower rate of interest. Viz contacted Yadav and told him that he needed Rs16 crore loan to expand his business.

On January 15, 2011, Viz met Yadav at his Oshiwara office. After discussion, Yadav told him that he would charge 2% as his commission. Believing him, Viz gave him an Axis Bank cheque of Rs15 lakh to clear the loan amount.

In the third week of March, Yadav gave a cheque dated of Rs16 crore to Viz.  When Viz deposited the said cheque in his bank, the cheque bounced. Viz then lodged a complaint of cheating at Oshiwara police  station.
