Following a glaring lapse in investigation by the Khar police in the Viveka Babajee suicide case, another flaw in their inquiry has come to light.

After the suicide note, the Khar police will now send the laptop and mobile phone of Babajee’s boyfriend Gautam Vora for forensic analysis, which was not done at the time of her death. The messages exchanged between Babajee and Vora will also be scrutinised.

“We are trying collect technical evidence aginst Vora. There were some loopholes in the previous investigations, but now we will not leave any stone unturned,” said deputy commissioner of police Pratap Dighavkar of Zone-IX.

“We will be seizing Vora’s laptop to see if we can get any information regarding Viveka,” added Dighavkar.

The police also plan to question Vora’s friend Adit, who was mentioned in a message sent to Babajee on her Facebook profile.

“Adit and myself have been trying to call you to see if you are ok. Please acknowledge, even if with a simple “yes” as a reply to this. Your phone is off. We are worried. Please get in touch asap (as soon as possible),” wrote Vora on her page on June 24 at around 11.23am, a day before she committed suicide.

According to an official, during the reinvestigation of the case, the police have found more evidence against Vora. “The Khar police had registered a case of accidental death previously, and we are now trying to convert the case into abetment to suicide,” said an officer.
