The special court of Usha Thakare on Tuesday directed the Yerawada Central Prison authorities to hand over German Bakery (GB) blast suspect, Mirza Himayat Inayat Baig (29) to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Pune on January 27 for producing him before the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court.

After Baig was produced before the court on Tuesday, assistant police inspector of the ATS, Atul Sabnis through the assistant public prosecutor, requested the court to remand Baig in police custody in the provocative literature case.

However, Baig’s lawyer, Abdul Rehman argued that only the JMFC court could remand the suspect in police custody.

Thakare ordered the ATS, Pune to take Baig into custody on January 27 and produce him before the court of the JMFC, Swarup Bose.

The Pune ATS arrested six persons — Feroze  Pathan and five others for allegedly distributing provocative literature on August 20, 2008. Baig was also allegedly involved in the crime and since then he was wanted by the police.
