The attack on Prof Vilas Shinde, Controller of Examinations, has created a furore among city professors and college principals.
A delegation of non-government city colleges met with the chief minister two days ago and requested him to provide them security, or else end up watching varsity officials being roughed up one by one by student unions.

In the wake of attacks on doctors in government hospitals, it seems it’s now the turn of professors and teachers to be assaulted. President of the association of non-government colleges, Dr TA Shiware, told DNA, “We have asked the CM to increase security for all of us. He has assured us that he will take up the matter seriously.”

Dr Madhu Nair, dean, faculty of commerce, who was a member of the delegation, stated, “This is the third attack on professors by a students’ union of political parties. Last year, an NM College principal, then a few weeks ago UN Kendre, the sports director of varsity, and now Prof Shinde. This is not an attack on any individual, but on an institution. When varsity officials are not safe, it’s a matter of concern to all of us.”
