The investigating officer in the case involving the unzipping act by actor Akshay Kumar and wife Twinkle Khanna at the 2009 Lakme Indian Fashion Week has been summoned by the Bombay high court on April 19 with all papers.
Justice AR Joshi was hearing an application filed by Abigail Rosa, 29, an assistant legal advisor with International Merchandising Corporation, co-promoters of the event. Rosa too was charged along with the couple. She has urged the court to quash the FIR registered against her saying she was falsely dragged in the case.
Rosa said that she was discharging a “purely secretarial function” and that she was not connected with the show except for applying for a no-objection certificate .The FIR has named her as the organiser.
Her advocate Aditya Khandeparkar said ‘Live Unbuttoned’ was a global advertising campaign commissioned by an international denim wear brand. The company had run a campaign in the UK through their advertising firm. “This ad campaign was prior to the 2009 fashion week. The co-promoters of the event had nothing to do with the unbuttoning gimmick. It was a brainchild of that international brand,” he said.
In his order passed last week, Joshi, said, “It is yet to be ascertained from the prosecution as to what is the exact role assigned to the present applicant (Rosa) in the offence registered against her.”
The actor had sparked a debate during the fashion week when Twinkle unzipped his jeans on the ramp to promote the denim brand. A social worker, Anil Nair, had filed a complaint with the Vakola police on March 30, 2009.
