Ajmal Kasab boycotted the death sentence proceedings going on in the Bombay high court, arguing that he wasn’t interested in being a mere spectator  through video conference.

However, on Monday, when the judgment is delivered, he will appear on the screen to hear his fate.

Advocate Farhana Shah met him in prison on Saturday and asked him to be present in court. Kasab merely replied, “Theek hai”(OK).
Prison sources said Shah was the first outsider to meet Kasab in months. Since he is in solitary confinement, no one is allowed to meet him. For a while now, Kasab had ceased interactions with the prison guards posted outside his special cell.

In the five-minute long meeting Shah had with Kasab in the small room meant for housing Mumbai police crime branch officials, below his special cell, Kasab looked weak and disoriented.  When questioned by Shah, he only either nodded or mumbled ‘theek hai’. The only thing he asked Shah was whether he could get a newspaper to?

Sources said, “In his special cell, Kasab has a copy of the Quran, a few story books given to him by his trial court lawyer. He is mostly seen reading the Quran.” Shah informed Kasab about the legal positions available to him if the high court confirms the death sentence.

Kasab is lodged in the high security Arthur road prison, in a bullet and bomb proof barrack. The cell has a small, cloak room inside. The food is as per jail manual but is separately cooked below his cell and given to him in paper plates to avoid any untoward incident.
