Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Babar and Vidyarthi Sena’s state vice-president, Sarang Kamthekar, alleged that nearly 50,000 voters’ names and 10,000 pictures of voters appeared twice in the voting list.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the Sena activists alleged that the ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had engineered this duplication to facilitate fake voting in their favour
They also alleged that most of the voter enlisting centres were shut since last week due to festivities. The Sena demanded the state election commission to extend the period of ‘Be Voters Campaign’ (Matdar Nondani Abhiyan) for 15 days.

The state election commission had conducted the campaign from October 1 to 31 to clear queries of voters.

Babar said, “We visited the five centres running at different schools, but all of them were closed due to the term- end exams. Several times the staff were absent at the centres.”

Kamthekar said that Sena had checked nearly 250 voters’ list in which they found that nearly 50,000 names of the voters appeared twice. Also, nearly 10,000 pictures of voters appeared twice in the list. Only the address, ward numbers and names were found to be different.

Sena demanded the SEC to probe the fake voting list and take necessary action against the officers responsible for it.
Sources in the district election office told DNA that the authority had issued notices to the voters whose names appeared repeatedly and the work of deletion of the same is on.
