43 million cubic metres water reserved to tackle water scarcity in Yavatmal

The district has received only 54% rainfall during the monsoon season this year and the district is set to face an acute drinking water scarcity during the upcoming summer days.

The Irrigation Department in the district has reserved over 43 million cubic metres (mcm) of water from its nine water resources to tackle the impending water scarcity here.
 
"Taking cognisance of the impending water scarcity problem in Yavatmal, we have decided to reserve 36.07 mcm  for drinking water supply in the Gram Panchayat and Municipal Council areas whereas 6.49 mcm  water has been reserved for industrial areas while 0.50 mcm has been reserved for the lone fish seedling breeding centre," saources said.

Meanwhile, the Yavatmal Panchayat Samiti has presented a revised draft action plan for its water supply schemes to the tune of Rs3.061 crore to the district adnministration for
its approval.
 
The Samiti had earleir submitted the plan involving a sum of Rs1.93 crore to the administration, which reportedly sent back the proposal to the Samiti to review the entire water scarcity situation in the district.
