On Tuesday night, a speeding BEST bus crushed Ghatkopar resident Awdhesh Gautam, 23, when he was crossing the road near the Shantiniketan Society on LBS Road. Passersby rushed Gautam to Rajawadi Hospital, but he was declared dead before admission. The police are looking for the bus driver.
In the second incident, a speeding truck hit motorcyclist Sachin Raut, 25, on Western Express Highway on Tuesday night. Raut, who was a resident of Kalachowkie, was heading towards Borivli when a truck hit him near Nana Nani park in Vile Parle.
“Raut sustained serious head injury. The doctors at VN Desai Hospital declared him brought dead,” said senior inspector NJ Patil of the Vile Parle police station. The police have arrested the truck driver Duraiswami Kavandar and charged him with causing death due to negligence.
But, the medical report showed that Kavandar was not driving drunk, Patil added.
In the third incident, the driver of a Mahindra Logan fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle crashing it into three men who were changing two rear wheels of their tempo near Mantri Marble Shop on the Western Express Highway in Vile Parle (East) on Wednesday at 1am.
“Rajesh Pashi died on the spot, while Ram Pyare Pashi and Ashok Yadav suffered serious injuries. They are undergoing treatment at VN Desai Hospital,” said Patil.
“We have arrested the driver Subodh Kumar, who confessed that he fell asleep while driving and lost control of the vehicle,” added Patil.
