A sessions court acquitted three persons on Friday who were charged with the kidnap of Dolly Thakur, a bargirl, in 2007.

Dolly, who worked at a bar in Vile Parle, was kidnapped at gunpoint on February 7, 2007, and police said that kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs1 crore.

A complaint was filed by Mira Thakur, Dolly’s mother, on the same day but Dolly could be traced only on March 6, 2007. The FIR said that Dolly was travelling in a car with her friend, Aman Siddiqui, when both of them were kidnapped. She was kept at various locations, including Nashik, while the kidnappers kept negotiating the ransom amount.

A day before Dolly returned home, police arrested Siddiqui and charged him with kidnapping her. Siddiqui’s father, Sajid Siddiqui, and Khalid Khan, a friend, were also named as accused in the case.

However, when the matter came up for trial, defence advocate Khan Abdul Wahab argued that Dolly had not named Siddiqui as the kidnapper in court. In fact, she had said that he was kidnapped along with her.

Moreover, Wahab argued that Sajid had filed a writ of habeas corpus in the Bombay High Court after his son had gone missing and thus was framed in a false case.
