Within the span of a week of finding two dead kittens inside Gyaneshwari Co-operative Housing Society in Goregaon East, two more were found injured. The Vanrai police have now stepped up the investigation after repeated incidents of stray cats being flung from the building's upper floors were reported.

On April 9, Thumbelina, a stray kitten, was with head injuries by Pamela Lobo, 41, an analyst with a private mortgage firm, in their society. Lobo and her daughter regularly fed the kitten inside the society and were warned by the society members to not do so. Lobo rushed the cat to Bombay SPCA in Parel for treatment.

"Since September last year, we were feeding three kittens in the society who had strayed due to ongoing construction work. Two kittens were found killed of which one was found strangulated while another one was flung from the building's upper floor."

"The last cat, Thumbelina, was flung from the building's first floor and I was informed by the watchman. I have complained to the police about the incident," said Lobo.

Jyotsna Rasam, Senior Inspector of Vanrai police station, said, "We have received the complaint about the incident and a First Information Report will be registered against the person involved in the killing and injuring kittens. We are investigating the matter."

Shastri Desai, Secretary of the building, said, "We are not sure about the reason behind the deaths of kittens inside the society. The complaint is vicious in nature and we will co-operate with the police in the investigations."
