Come March 2018, even citizens will be able to monitor real time traffic count and toll collection entering and exiting city at five entry points, Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Citizens can access the real time updates every 25 minutes on the website of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

Currently, MSRDC officials claim that only they are able to monitor the traffic count and toll collection on the server built by them but now the corporation aims to have a mechanism wherein even citizens will be able to monitor the information in real time online.

This, the corporation believes will bring in more transparency by allowing every single individual to monitor traffic and revenue collection. The move comes in the wake of repeated allegations regarding toll collection companies under reporting traffic count and revenue collection figures.

"The system will work in such a way that every transaction at the toll booths will be updated every 25 minutes on the MSRDC website, and it will reflect under the Right To Information (RTI) section of the website. This will also help citizens to plan their commute in case the traffic count on a particular day is much more than the usual days," said a MSRDC official.

According to MSRDC officials, this system of getting real time updates online will be available to citizens only for five entry and exit points of the city at Dahisar, Vashi, Airoli, Mulund (Eastern Express Highway) and Mulund (LBS Marg) along with Bandra Worli Sea-Link, Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Thane-Ghobundar Road. "Initially it will be for only 16 toll booths and later we will extend it to other remaining toll booths around the state," the MSRDC official said.

The MSRDC operates 42 toll booths in the city, however, this system will not be for toll booths maintained by Public Works Department (PWD) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
