TMC cracks down on illegal political hoardings

With the Thane civic elections slated to be held in March 2017, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has already started cracking down on illegal political hoardings. The Thane Municipal Commissioner has issued orders to register cases against those responsible for putting up political hoardings on bus stops.

To tackle the menace of ugly political hoardings once again cropping up as eyesores across the city, the Thane municipal commissioner has ordered legal action against such advertisements. “There are rules about which advertisements are allowed on bus stops and which are not,” says Sandip Malvi, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, TMC.

However, these rules are violated and many political hoardings are put up on bus stops. “Hence, our commissioner has ordered that a police case be filed against those who put up such advertisements on TMC bus stops,” he says. Applauding the crackdown, Raju Patil, a resident of Kalwa said, “Whether there are elections or not, it is tiring to see the faces of these politicians preening at us from hoardings. Hope besides bus stops TMC also does not allow such hoardings anywhere in the city.”
