Three commuters killed in a day after falling off moving train

Only two of the deceased have been identified as of now.

Three railway commuters lost their lives after falling off from a local train while one was injured between Kalwa and Mumbra railway stations between 7 to 11.30am, on Tuesday. However, Thane Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered an ADR (accidental death) over the deaths and made a note of the case of injury.

Only two of the deceased have been identified as of now.

In the first case, the unidentified body of an 18-year-old boy was found in the Mumbra-Kalwa tunnel on the slow track, which goes towards CST. The accident occurred around 6:45am and the boy died on his way to Thane civil hospital. He was declared dead on arrival around 7:45am.

The second and third cases were of Shabir Mullah (21) and Altaf Shaikh (19), both travelling on the rooftop of the 9:55am train from Mumbra-CST. According to sources, Mullah died as he was electrocuted while Shaikh fell off the moving train between Mumbra and Kalwa. Both of them died at around 11am. All the three deceased sustained head injuries.

The injured person, who is in his 30s, was trying to board a running Thane-Vashi local when he slipped and fell on the platform.
