Thieves have a field day in Thane city, steal valuables worth Rs13 lakh

Recent spate of house break-in and theft incidents have left Thane residents worried. In two such cases late on Saturday night in the same locality, miscreants managed to take away cash and ornaments worth Rs13,07,150.

The incident took place at Sainath Nagar in Louiswadi. The house of a 33-year-old man and his neighbhour Sameer Khandekar were broken into. The miscreants first broke into the 33-year-old's house and took away cash and jewellery worth Rs12,47,150. From Khandekar's house, cash and ornaments worth Rs 60,000 were stolen.

"The residents were away when the incidents took place in the wee hours of Sunday. We have registered a case under section 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence) and 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) of the Indian Penal Code. We are going through footage from the CCTV in the locality for more clues," he added.
