Thane team to represent India at 'Olympics of dance' in USA

Over four months, regional qualifying rounds were held in 10 states across India, and auditions saw a participation of over 40,000 contestants. Of these, 10,000 select dancers arrived in Mumbai to compete at the national qualifiers.

Season 4 of Indian Hip Hop Dance Championship was held at at Inorbit Mall, Malad from May 27 to 30. It is a national qualifier round to participate in the World Hip Hop Dance Championship 2015 in San Diego, USA. Considered to be the 'Olympics of dance', the World Hip Hop Dance Championship witnesses fierce competition between 55 nations for the title of World Champions.

Over four months, regional qualifying rounds were held in 10 states across India, and auditions saw a participation of over 40,000 contestants. Of these, 10,000 select dancers arrived in Mumbai to compete at the national qualifiers.

Through 4 days, the competition was held in 5 different divisions. The Adult Crew Division (18 yrs and above) saw the maximum participation. The competition grew tougher each stage and 45 teams from the prelims tried to prove their mettle on stage, of which 23 teams qualified for the finale. The winning team, Scorpions Crew from Thane, stood apart from all the others; they will represent India at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship 2015 in August.

In the two years they competed in the Indian Hip Hop Dance Championship, they placed sixth both times, yet through perseverance, hard work and commitment, they improved their choreography, worked on their strengths and weaknesses, and were finally titled Champions, 2015.

The silver medallist in the Adult Category was Fallen Angels, and bronze medallist was Dynamic Crew; both from Mumbai. The second division was the Mega Crew Division which comprised of 15 – 40 Members, where any age group could participate. The Gold medallist of Mega Crew was DFD Jazz Boys Dance Crew (Delhi).

The championship was judged by Fictitious Crew who were the winners of Indian Hip Hop Dance Championship, 2012, and is now part of the film industry as cast of Any Body Can Dance 2 (2015).

The Indian Hip Hop Dance Championship is the only event in India that takes dance to its next level, by giving the dancers an international platform to showcase their talent on the world stage.
