Traffic on Mumbai-Goa Highway halted, train services affected as heavy rains lash Mumbai, adjoining areas

Local trains services have been stopped between Badlapur and Kalyan on Central line in Suburban area of Mumbai due to heavy rains.

Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Mumbai affecting rail and road traffic as several areas in the city reported water logging. 

Local trains services which were stopped between Badlapur and Kalyan on Central line have started, however, they are running slowly.  Train services were stopped for an hour after water-logging  between Vithalwadi and Kalyan (near level crossing gate).

Services on Central and Harbour line are running late by 15-20 minutes.

However, traffic on Mumbai-Goa Highway has been halted since 30 minutes near Kashedi ghat due overflowing of Savitri river. "River water has come on the highway, and traffic is stopped due to it. Vehicular movement will be allowed post river water is drained out," said state highway police.

According to IMD, the city is likely to witness heavy rains for next 48 hours. "Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Greater Mumbai and suburban areas including Thane and Palghar, today and tomorrow," said IMD.

Meanwhile, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) struggles with repair work, another incident of road cave-in has been reported in South Mumbai.

A cave-in took place on the stretch between NK Road and Dr. Baba Saheb Jaykar Marg in Charni Road.

The civic administration has stated repair works of the road after it was noticed by motorists.

According to BMC's C ward control, the road cave-in was noticed around 10 pm by some motorists who then complained to the Road Department.

A senior civic official said that a team of engineers has reached the spot and checking it the situation is normal or not.

Gaurav Segwekar, a resident of Charni Road said who noticed cave-in said that he saw a half-feet deep pothole occurred on road. "There was no crack but the level was low at some places along the road," said Segwekar.

Over the last few days, several such incidents are taking place in the city.

On Tuesday, a road at Grant Road station developed cracks on Frere bridge connecting Grant road and Nana Chowk.

On Monday, part of road over-bridge (ROB) collapsed on rail tracks in suburban Andheri on Tuesday, affecting local train services on the Western line till late evening. At least five people were also injured in the incident.  

Last week, over 1,000 residents of the upscale building woke up to a massive cave-in near their building in Wadala.
