Mumbai Pride Festival is here; celebrate with pride

The celebrations of the Mumbai Pride Festival will conclude with the Queer Azaadi March on January 31.

The Mumbai Pride Festival, a month-long celebration, will conclude on January 31 with a Queer Azaadi March.

To kick-start the Mumbai Pride Festival, Queer Azaadi Mumbai (QAM) and other LGBT Pride organisations have a number of events in the pipeline. The celebrations will conclude with the Queer Azaadi March on January 31. Here are some of the Mumbai Pride events planned over the weekend:

Yaariyan’s Gulabi Mela

In its third instalment, the Gulabi Mela will include over 25 stalls offering delicious food, games, clothes, accessories, souvenirs, tarot-reading, numerology and a lot more. The evening will also feature musical performances by Sushant Divgikar and Rainbow Voices Mumbai, a Zumba dance performance by Tabitha Thomas and a reading of stories by actress Mona Ambegaonkar from the queer anthology, Out.
When: January 25, 3pm to 10 pm
Where: MacQueens Banquets, Macronells Bungalow, 1st floor, St Andrew’s Road, Pali Hill, Bandra (W).

Dancing Queens
Based on the theme of The Journey of Dancing Queens – Woh Saat Saal, Mumbai-based LGBTQ dance troupe will perform various dance forms such as Lavani, Bollywood, Mujra, ballet, salsa and Bhangra. 
When: January 26, 8 am to 1 pm
Where: PL Deshpande Hall, Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi.
Tickets: Rs 300

The Amazing Queer Hunt
The treasure hunt will have participants on their toes. Participants will get to explore Mumbai, walk through the city’s streets, interact with local residents, hop in and out of BEST buses and local trains.
When: January 26, 8 am onwards
Venue: Mahim (E)

Queer Azaadi March
The Mumbai Pride Festival will conclude with a Queer Azaadi March (QAM) that will begin at August Kranti Maidan, pass through Opera House and end at Girgaum Chowpatty. Participants will be given posters, banners and pride flags at the start venue.
When: January 31, 3 pm onwards
Where: August Kranti Maidan

About QAM
LGBTIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer) individuals are a sexual minorities who are not widely accepted by the Indian society. QAM started a movement that aimed to promote the acceptance of the community, by organising events which allow their voices to be heard.
