The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Friday arrested a 21-year-old man from Jharkhand in connection with the murder of a 25-year old woman whose body was found on the railway track near Borivili on November 14.

According to police, the deceased identified as Priyanka Dinesh Varma,(25) hailing from Bihar, was murdered by her own husband over suspicion of an extramarital affair. The deceased was strangulated to death and her body was thrown on the tracks by the accused between Borivili and Kandivili railway stations.

The arrested accused,Gautamkumar Baleshwar Gupta (21) has allegedly confessed that he had helped the victim's husband Dinesh Verma(38) to kill her and dispose of her body.

"After sending the body for the postmortem and further investigations about the woman, we came to know that she had reportedly gone to her village in Jharkhand with her husband and their eight year old daughter,"said police inspector Sunil Jadhav of Unit 12 of the Crime Branch.

"Following the information, a police team was then sent to Jharkhand for further investigation. Our team on Friday arrested Gupta from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. The main accused is still absconding, and he too will be arrested soon," he added
