A lift collapsed and fell from the tenth floor all the way to the ground at Suleman Towers, near Arab Lane, Nagpada on Tuesday. According to the society watchman, one of the two lifts in the building fell around 7 am, injuring four out of six people present in the lift. “The lift stopped on the 16th floor and while descending, lost control on the 10th floor and fell,” said the watchman.

Following the incident, vehicles of the fire brigade and police were arriving at the spot. Two people sustained head injuries, while two others received minor injuries on their arms and legs. All were rushed to the hospital. “Residents suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital. However, they are recovering fast and are expected to be back today itself,” said a resident.

“On the 16th floor, a small kid and his father entered the lift, while on the 10th floor another father-son duo boarded on. Apart from that there was also a lady and a teenager,” said the watchman. He further added that the liftman was on leave.

The lift was installed with license six years ago by Liftech India, a Chennai-based company. It has been sealed by the police and people are using stairs to reach their apartments in the 19-storeyed building.
