Family celebrated Kunal's birthday only 11 days ago

Barely eleven days ago on October 16, Raj Kumar Chavan and his wife Sonali celebrated their son Kunal's 12th birthday along with the woman's paramour Kiran Makwana and his two children Laksh and Janvi. After a fun-filled birthday, when all of them had a sumptuous dinner together, little did Chavan know that a tragedy of this magnitude was in the making. Now, 11 days later, his wife and their only son are lying in a morgue.

On Tuesday, the residents of Sai Leela Apartment in Vasai East woke up to find a posse of police personnel on their society campus talking to their management committee members. Soon they were shocked to learn about the double murder.

"Ever since the family rented the flat, we were told that Makwana was a cousin who was living away from his wife. Now, this has come as a shocker to us. In the agreement too, the family has given details of Makwana and his two kids," said an office-bearer of the society.

When spoken to, a grief-stricken Chavan said, "We were a happy family. I never thought that such a thing could happen to us and that too Kiran would kill my wife and son. I was out for work and received a call from the police. I rushed back home only to find both of them dead. I still have no clue as to why Kiran did this."
