Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) 'L ward', comprising Kurla and Sakinaka, is the biggest civic ward in Mumbai and 60 percent of the ward suffers from water logging every monsoon. However, this monsoon, the residents can expect a major relief from water logging as BMC is expanding storm water drains in seven major locations in Kurla. The work, which is expected to start by the end of this month, will prevent water logging in chronic spots like Kurla railway station (west), Kajupada, Himalaya Society, Quereshi Nagar, LBS Road-SCLR junction and Kurla depot, among others.
"From the July 2005 floods, this is the first time when drains at major locations will be widened. In Kurla, some chronic water logging locations have missing links of drains. This project will also connect those links which will increase the network of storm water drains which in return allow more drainage of rain water," said Assistant Municipal Commissioner of L ward, Ajitkumar Ambi.
