While the civil society members, social activists and past students from the institutions of Shikshan Prasarak Mandali have come forward with the demand of removing Dr Uday Salunkhe, Abhay Dadhe and Anant Mate and others responsible for alleged irregularities in the trust, past students are planning a movement to bring in fresh faces to save it.

Noted actor Rahul Solapurkar, who is a former student of Sir Parshurambhau College, Bharat Desadla of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan and Dr Kumar Saptarshi, the founder of Yuvak Kranti Dal (Yukrand), have come out in the open against the present set of people governing the affairs of the Mandali. Shrirang Inamdar, a former student and an Arjuna Award winner, has expressed the need for an inquiry into the alleged irregularities.

Demanding a thorough inquiry, Dr Saptarshi said that if there has really been no annual general body meeting for the past six years, then the charity commssioner needs to appoint an administrative board in the Mandali and conduct an independent inquiry. He said since it is about education, there is an absolute need of appropriate action against those involved in the alleged irregularities.

Desadla said when he organised 'Saprem Sa. Pa.', a get-together of former students, it was attended by luminaries like NCP leader Shrinivas Patil, also a former student. Patil later became the governor of Sikkim. Although the former students wanted to donate a new building for the commerce faculty, those who are at the helm of the affairs of the present governing council did not respond, Desalda revealed. Instead, Desadla alleged that they tried to create a rift in the ex-students' association. He demanded a proper inquiry into the allegations.

Solapurkar said whatever has come to the fore through dna and Zee reports is shocking and there needs to be a thorough inquiry into it. He also said that there is a need to remove those at the helm of affairs in the Shi Pra Mandali.

Inamdar is of the opinion that even though there is no direct impact of the alleged irregularities on sports activities, an inquiry needs to be instituted.

While various queries are being raised over the irregularities in the Shi Pra Mandali, the question on the part of the charity commissioner's office has remained unanswered. There is a case pending before the joint charity commissioner's office in Pune in this regard.

Since Shi Pra Mandali is a registered educational trust and it is mandatory for them to submit annual accounts and audit reports to the charity commssioner's office. While speaking to dna, the Shi Pra Mandali governing council chairman Abhay Dadhe has admitted that there has been no annual general meeting in the past six years and this apparently means that there has been no sanction to the annual accounts and audit reports. The very question which arises out of this is that what has been the action by the charity commissioner's office in this regard.

Lawyer Mihir Prabhudesai has moved the Bombay high court against Shi Pra Mandali as well as the state government for the lack of appropriate police investigation, the anomalies in the income tax raids and the subsequent investigations and actions. Prabhudesai also approached the joint charity commissioner with an appeal but his case is going on for the past seven years.
