NMMC commissioner Tukaram Mundhe did not execute major projects but he certainly put confidence among residents that the city will be taken care of.

Mundhe did not delay in taking action against NMMC officials who were found involved in any kinds of wrong doing. He suspended officials and sacked contract workers. He brought revenue to the coffer of NMMC and controlled on useless expenses.

Within one week, since Mundhe joined NMMC, all the officials were asked to report in office before 10am. "This was a major change to be brought within a week's time, he joined. This sent a clear message that no nonsense will work in NMMC anymore," said a senior NMMC official. Mundhe made some changes to bring transparency in the functioning of NMMC and ease of getting work done. Now, residents do not need to wait for their works done or move to official to another.

Mundhe transferred officials who were in the same department for a long time. "There were officials who were in a single department for almost five to seven years. Mundhe not only transferred but also started departmental inquiry wherever needed," said the official.

Mundhe started helpline which address issues within 24 hours and sort out issues within a week time. "Complainant gets response within 24 hours of register their complaints and this does not happen, the complaint immediately goes to senior officials," added the official.

Apart from stopping unnecessary expenses, Mundhe increased property tax and cess target to Rs1,000 crore each. Earlier, the budget of collection of property tax was around Rs450 crore, which has been increased to Rs1,000 crore.
