Cleaner kills truck driver with screwdriver

In a brutal and cold-blooded murder, the cleaner of a truck killed its driver after drilling a screwdriver into the victim's head. The cleaner is absconding after the incident.

The truck in which the incident took place was plying cotton from Navi Mumbai towards Haryana on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway.

The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Aslam, a 35-year-old, while the cleaner is yet to be identified. Both of them worked for Sukmani Transport, which is based in Haryana, and were on their way from Navi Mumbai to the northern state after loading the truck with cotton. The incident could have been taken place sometime between last Thursday and this week, since it was only after a patrolling van was informed about the truck driver lying with a screwdriver lodged inside the skull that his body was recovered.

"We have established contact with the transport firm owner in Haryana and while we have identified the victim, we will also establish the identity of the accused cleaner. The killing was so brutal that the screwdriver passed from the right side of the skull to the left," said Pradeep Jadhav, deputy superintendent of police, Jawhar division.

"The cleaner might have hit screwdriver with a heavy weapon as it has passed from one side of the skull to the other. We are ascertaining if the driver was carrying cash and have registered a case against the accused under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Although he is absconding, we will soon make the arrest," Jadhav said.
