Investment expected

Maharashtra expects an investment of Rs 4.6 lakh crore across sectors like ports, industries and textiles during the 'Make In India' week starting February 13.

The state government will set up a separate pavilion to showcase 'Magnetic Maharashtra', where meetings will be held with investors.

A solar panel manufacturer from China is likely to make a big investment in the state, an official from Chief Minister of Maharashtra's office said.

"The name of the company would be known after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) is signed. The company has asked us for 3,000-5,000 acres of land for its solar panel manufacturing unit. This will be the largest project of such a type in Maharashtra," the official added.

According to Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, some foreign universities are also keen on tying up with Maharashtra in the education sector. He said Maharashtra expects huge investment in sectors like automobile, electronics, ports, and textile.

The state government expects investments in textile sector as many foreign and domestic companies are ready to invest in Maharashtra, Kshatriya said.

Hotel operators to benefit from week-long event

Most hotels in north Mumbai, spread across the suburbs of Bandra, Santacruz, Juhu and Andheri, have either run out of room availability or hiked up rates three to four times their normal rates to cash in on the booming demand during the week, which begins with the otherwise busy Valentine's Day.

A look at the best available room rates compiled by dna from hotels operated by Taj, Oberoi, ITC, Marriott, Hyatt and Accor, among others, clearly shows a sudden spike in rates ranging between 40% to 375% (depending on the location and date).

Industries to benefit

Politics of Make-in-India

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray has not been invited to any of the 'Make in India' week events to be held.

When asked on Thackeray's absence from the dinner, a senior Shiv Sena leader requesting anonymity said, "Uddhavji has not been invited for the dinner. Times have changed."

Taking a jibe at the Modi government, former minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has said policies like 'Make in India' and hatred cannot go together as he asserted that "outrageous" statements against minorities by ruling party members only undermine the country's soft power.
