Wedged between those Monday blues and Friday highs come the recently eventful Wednesdays! From Bollywood to expatriate nights, Wednesdays have it all. This is what the créme de la créme of the city have to say.

Designer Raj Shroff feels Wednesday is perfect for that mid- week break. His theory is to complete the partying on a Wednesday (Because of Bangalore’s harrowing deadlines!) and reserve Saturdays for relaxing at friends’ houses without having to worry about time constraints or work.

His favourite spots for a Wednesday night are Shiro in UB City and Sunny’s in Lavelle Road and Indiranagar. “It doesn’t have the same vibe as a Friday or Saturday, though!” he says.

Choreographer Rahul Dev Shetty says the concept of midweek partying differs on a week to week basis. “If I’m not travelling, then I like to catch up with friends on a Wednesday. UB City is my top favourite, followed by Opus,” says Rahul. As a choreographer, most of his work happens over the weekend so Wednesdays are often spent planning and preparing for that.

Model Pashmeena Barker usually parties on a Wednesday only if her husband, DJ Rohit Barker, is playing somewhere. For her, Wednesdays are more for relaxing and catching up on a movie to save all that energy for the weekend! “I wouldn’t mind hosting a party on a Wednesday, though! It’s not the day; it’s the people who make a party!” says Pashmeena.

Entrepreneur Viren Khanna believes that Wednesdays are more for socialising at places like Bacchus or City Bar, than for partying.

“Two years ago, midweek parties were all the rage, though!” He doesn’t mind partying on a Wednesday but there’s a limited choice of venues and a limited crowd of people. Viren is open to the idea of hosting parties on a Wednesday, “People will come as long as it’s happening,” and knowing him, it’s sure to be!

Actor Nidhi Subbaiah says her busy schedule makes her lose track of what day of the week it is! If she’s free on a Wednesday night, she heads out to City Bar to catch up with the gang.

“Wednesdays are great for lounging at your favourite hotspot, but you can’t freak out like you would on a Saturday!” she laughs.

From the organising perspective, it does make a lot of sense to make Wednesday happening.

Executive chef Manu Chandra of Olive Beach, says, “It’s a general trend in the city now.

Wednesdays make for an ideal midweek party... You can head out for a few drinks without having the guilt of a Saturday night,” he says.

In fact, Olive Beach plays host to the Bar Nights every Wednesday, which promises its guests a fabulous time with cocktails and music. Even entrepreneur Carlton Braganza of Opus hosts special Wednesdays at both the Opus venues in the city.

“We have a lot of response to our Karaoke and Booze and Clues nights’ respectively,” he says. He likes the idea of having the choice of partying midweek rather than waiting for the weekend to arrive. Makes sense to us!
