Visiting Spain was always on actress Shahana Goswami’s list. While she finds it difficult to describe why Spain was on her wishlist, she says it was some sort of relatability that pulled her towards the country. She says, “I can’t explain why Spain was on my mind but I was almost certain that if I was going to take a vacation then it would be to Spain and so I took time out and went for it with my friend, Arunima Roy.”

The duo went on a girlfriend getaway and backpacked across Spain for over a month’s time. Shahana and Arunima had a budget beforehand, and surprisingly, they came back with some left over money.

“We decided to backpack and see the country because I wanted to get a taste of the real life and go beyond being the conventional tourist. We were on a budget, not because we couldn’t afford to spend, but because we wanted to see the country in a certain way. And it was great fun.”

The duo managed to explore about 12 cities of the 17 in Spain during their month long vacation. They spent another week in Portugal but she plans to go back to Portugal as she couldn’t spend much time there.

Of all the cities she visited, Huesca, Cuenca and Sevilla remain her favourite places. “We really explored each and every place, from small towns to big cities...we did it all. We met so many people who just made our stay there beautiful with every passing day,” says Shahana.

Another special memory she holds is that she tried sky-diving once again (the first time being in Mauritius). “This time I was much more relaxed and I was able to enjoy it better because I was prepared and knew what would happen.”

Shahana also happened to be in Spain when the Cordoba festival had just begun, which again was a one of its kind experience. “The festival is like a day-long fiesta. Tents are put up and people drink and dress up traditionally. We literally partied our heart out there. Talking about parties, we did go to Ibiza, the party capital of Spain but unfortunately, it was off season. However, we did manage to walk through this one particular lane that has all the clubs and pubs.”

On a parting note she says, “Spain is a beautiful country. They have an open drinking culture and people drink there to be happy and have fun. I never saw people getting into ugly brawls after getting drunk, something that I have seen so much otherwise. The people there are always happy and sport a smile on their faces.”
