Once again, the  signature look from the biker/punk trend comes under the fashion radar. The late ’80s and early ’90s was all about loud accessories and leather clothing which eventually evolved into the biker chic look.

Metal accessories have been quite popular over the years, but it’s evolved gradually and now, instead of plain metal, they are teamed with diverse embellishments for a more polished look. Stylist Gouri Kapoor is of the opinion that metal accessories bring in a chic look quite effortlessly. “You can always opt for a metal look if you’re going punk for the evening, but for a more elegant look, try a chunky pendant hung on a chiffon thread. Huge metal rings are also in vogue as they add that glam factor,” she says, adding, “Personally, I am for layered waist belts that can double up as neckpieces.

An all-metal look, complete with earstuds, bracelets and metal belts complement any leather outfit. In fact, even an element of leather, be it leggings or a jacket would go best with these accessories. Add some long layered chains, chunky neckpieces or nose studs and you’re all set.”

Often, even designers have fused metal accessories with the biker or punk look. Noted designer Vera Wang had an entire collection of metal neckpieces inspired by the motorcycle chain, a few years ago. This included chunky necklaces in shades of blues and black resembling a kids bib. Celebrities like Lively Blake, Rihanna and Halle Berry too have been seen sporting these. Designer Michelle Salins illustrates ways to work with metal to achieve different looks. “For a Boho look, you can try huge metal neckpieces or even chunky pendants, which make a cool statement. Try delicate anklets with a single charm. Bracelets by Chanel and Bebe in plum and honeysuckle shades were red hot on the runways this season,” she explains, adding, “For a biker babe look, try junkie handles, a mixture of several metallic bangles with heavy twisted chains. Filigree jewellery is big right now. Ornately carved metal earrings and neckpieces are worn best with evening dresses and casual wear.”

A must mention would be metals piercings that came into being along with glam rock and metal. What’s more exciting was the way they have evolved from spiked metals with a more fluid approach to metal jewellery even for a rock look. So, rock out with a metallic glint!
