Some young sci-fi fans in Arizona are apparently undergoing procedures to have their ears sculpted into elfish points despite the procedure's irreversibility.

ABC's Good Morning America revealed that they cut open the tips of their ears and have the cartilage sculpted into tiny, elf-inspired points.

Body modification artist Steve Haworth of Phoenix told ABC he's noticed more people looking to channel their inner elves, coming to him to perform the irreversible procedure, which costs 600 dollars.

"There's a lot of people out there who have an inner vision of themselves and they want to express that to the world around them," Haworth told the channel.

"I'm very happy to be an artist that can provide that kind of work," he added.

But some doctors warn that sculpting cartilage can lead to ear deformities and dangerous infections that can destroy ears within a matter of days, the channel reported.

Unlike tattoos and piercings, the procedure is also irreversible, not to mention painful.
