With the holiday season all set to begin, it’s time to know what to pack and how to pack all your things in for that much-looked-forward-to holiday.  For starters, whatever you do, don’t start packing the night before your trip.

Take your time and really think about what you need. You might want four or five changes for a weekend away, but you certainly don’t need 14 different evening outfits for a fortnight’s summer holiday — you need about nine as there will be evenings you don’t do anything. If you’re staying in a hotel, you may be able to get outfits laundered too.

Designer Nachiket Barve recommends comfortable clothes that don’t really crease quite fast. “Also, I think carrying sunscreen and a pair of sunglasses is mandatory. A lot depends on the place where you’re headed so if it’s Europe, I’d recommend some great looking dresses paired with lovely jackets as part of a layered look in keeping with the cold climate. You can also carry a lot of accessories — be it bags, scarves or shoes,” he says, adding that on the other hand, a place like Bali demands that you carry a bandhini sarong and beaded trinkets. “As a matter of fact, you can even buy them locally. The idea should be to carry enough but also leave enough room to later on customise your wardrobe as per your needs, ” he points out.

Gayatri Khanna feels that this is the time to bring out the clothes from your resort collection. “A kaftan top, a swimsuit or a sarong would be ideal and one can also pair it with a straw hat if one’s in a place with a hot and humid climate. Maxi dresses, linen suits and chiffon tops are also a good idea,” she advises.

And while model Candice Pinto loves her slip-in dresses and flip-flops — ”I think they work for most holiday destinations” — for entrepreneur Nisha Javeri, comfort is of utmost importance. “So first and foremost, I would carry a comfortable pair of walking shoes, say flats, for my trip. Apart from this, a track suit and a vest are a must-have for me. Also, I would suggest that it’s best to travel light,” she says.
