Ambience
The restaurant business is an interesting one. While they are primarily catering to people’s appetite, many restaurants find things other than food to form a part of their USP. While some take the taste route, some hammer on price and yet many cater to the experience in itself. Experience becomes an extension of the ambience.

Moshe’s is one such restaurant that does all of the above and more. It creates an ambience, which though to many may seem basic and simple, is actually infectious and forms part of your memoirs, often reminisced by people on any given day.

As I stepped into the Moshe’s at Hill Road, Bandra (W), I felt calm, relaxed and slowly began to absorb the simple yet alluring aesthetics in decor. The vibe of the place made me smile. It is a balance of classy and grunge — with tables of fours and sixes, mellow light, complimenting the beige walls and stark furniture.

As I sat down, my eyes would dart back to the wall of products — beautifully packaged and displayed on the side. Jams, breads and other condiments were stacked up for grabs. I could already imagine the food — fresh, fragrant and filling.

Order

I began with some bread and cheese, which is quite standard, but in a place like this, I knew my taste buds were going to experience the first of a kind. And I was right! I moved onto a kebab platter. Thankfully it was not fried and heavy. Usually kebabs have a funny knack of just being a potpourri of flavors, blended in meat — served with an aim to hit the spot, but these had unique and interesting flavours, which really worked for me as I slowly enjoyed them one by one.

For the main course, I ordered the Balanese Prawn Curry, served over steamed barley rice. The prawns were succulent, the gravy mildly spiced and a real treat.

I knew I had to give the desserts a shot since their display was so enticing. So I ordered a Baked Philadelphia Cheese Cake. Every bite deserved another (for those that fear guilt pangs after dessert, be assured that this will make room for none! The cheese cake is baked). Not overly sweet and rather well textured, I went through it in no time.

Service
The service was prompt and pleasant. Order takers made valuable suggestions. Reasonably priced for the kind of meal, service and comfortable ambiance.

Verdict
On the whole, Moshe’s delivered a charmed dining experience, with the view of the rain through the large French windows adding so much more to the experience of every morsel of food eaten. A definite recommendation to all those who believe that eating out is fulfilling your cravings and inheriting an experience along with it.
