How it began
I started working out about one and a half years back; an effort I took because I wanted to stay in shape and keep my body toned. I’ve never been into sports or any sort of athletics so going to the gym was quite a chore initially. I didn’t think I would last running on the treadmill for more than two minutes. But with time and a lot of effort, certain things have changed and I really like working out.

My regime
I work out for five or six days a week for about one and a half hours and my fitness regime is a mix of cardio and weight training. I like doing a lot of strength and resistance training with weights.

My space
I work out at Pink in Indiranagar and it’s been about eight months since I signed up. It’s quite accessible for me and apart from it being a gym exclusively for women, I also have a few friends who work out here. So, apart from the work-out business, it’s also fun!

My diet
It’s difficult for me to follow a strict diet. Even if I do force myself to eat healthy, it’s impossible to cut down on chocolates or sweets. I love them in any form or kind! But yes, I am careful of what I eat and I drink a lot of water through the day. I can’t do without tender coconut water, green tea and fresh fruit juices every day. I try and keep carbs to a minimum and have a lot of fibre and protein.

As a child I was forced to eat a big breakfast, which I hated. But now I see the benefits.

A nice sumptuous breakfast gives me all the energy and even if lunch gets delayed or I skip it entirely, the breakfast is what saves my day. I have a lot of oats and I like idlis and parathas with chholey too. I like salads with a bit of dressing as well. However,  my dinners are always very light.

Fitness means
Fitness to me is a healthy and happy way of life — it’s an extension of loving and watching out for yourself. And going to the gym isn’t only about the perfect body, it’s also about feeling good and beating stress. It also disciplines one’s lifestyle.

Fitness philosophy
Fitness to me has more to do with the mind, the body just follows. One needs to decide to live a stress and cramp free and a disciplined life in order to be fit. Like I said, fitness is an extension of loving yourself. Our lives are gifts and the only way we treasure it is by taking care of it. Work out, but don’t kill yourself.

You shouldn’t be lazy and sitting around all day either. Whether we are at home or at our workplace, I think all of us should try and be active as much as possible, apart from taking time out to follow our fitness regime. Lethargy is the biggest culprit that sickens our minds and bodies.

I recommend
I think fitness is a must for everyone, especially in today’s world which is constantly challenged by time and pressure.

One of the important ways to combat stress and keep up with it is, to stay healthy. So whether it is half an hour’s brisk walk in the neighbourhood or giving up a spoon of sugar in your morning tea, a healthy lifestyle is what all of us should decide to lead.
