This Friday, Mumbai’s death thrash metal band Devoid is playing host to India’s first ever Slayer tribute gig. Slayer as a music band has been a source of inspiration to a lot of rock bands in the city and while a lot of international artists have come and gone, Indian audiences have been yearning to watch Slayer. While an average Indian metalhead may not have seen the band perform live ever, the following Slayer has, especially amongst the Indians is massive and hence the tribute.

“We always loved listening to Slayer. We always loved playing Slayer. On this occasion we will be combining the both for one night that we guarantee will not be soon forgotten. The Slayer carnage will be doubled as we will be joined by other artists from various bands for a gig that will send you screaming from the sky. This Friday things are going to get really, really intense,” says Arun Iyer, vocalist of Devoid.

Joining them on stage will be members from Zygnema, Atmosfear, Demonic Resurrection, Bhayanak Maut and others. The event will also host a screening session of Slayer videos prior to the gig on September 24, at B69, Andheri, from 7 pm-11pm.
Remember that statement made in the Sam Dunn documentary Metal: A headbanger’s journey? No one can ever say ‘there was that one summer when I was into Slayer, but it was a phase’.
