Indian Voices, a new anthology of fiction and prose by emerging and established Indian writers from across 16 countries, is a dramatic assemblage of 64 budding and well-established Indian writers and individuals from different professions.

It summarises their experiences across genres in one single anthology. The list of writers includes poets, journalists, authors, media personalities, artists, economists, lawyers etc.

The book provides a continuing newness, a renewed vision of words and history and makes all of it accessible well beyond the confines of India. Contained in the pages of this anthology is an amazing repertoire of prose and poetry penned by those of Indian descent who are living in different corners of the world. They bring to life the unique characteristics and myriad feelings associated with this unpredictable, pulsating and colourful country.

Among the list of writers in this anthology are Ashoak Upadhyay  Koushik Roy, Sudha Menon , Menka Shivdasani, Pervin Saket, Shachi Kaul and Nikhat Fatima.

Each story and experience in its own right is profoundly poignant, capturing the spirit of a typical Indian. The anthology has been edited and compiled by Toronto-based author and editor, Jasmine D’Costa.

Pune-based author Sudha Menon’s debut fiction work, an excerpt from her novel-in-progress, which is part of this new anthology takes a close look at the infamous “gulf boom”, that brought about much prosperity into the state but also irreversibly changed its social structure.

The novel Karthu is set in a palm-fringed coastal village in Kerala’s Malapuram district and traces the life of the protagonist by the same name. The innocent 13-year old girl falls victim to rape by a rich, Dubai -returned Muslim man who has recently built a palatial house in the village.

Karthu goes to the house to find work to keep her family fed but ends up being a victim instead. The novel traces the coming-of-age of this young girl, her struggle to face life’s challenges after she bears a child resulting from the rape and her journey of self-discovery.

The anthology has been put together by a Toronto-based writer-editor & published by Fortytwo Bookz Galaxy.
