More than 3,000 young theatre artistes staged a street play Bhook simultaneously at 1,000 locations across Assam yesterday in a never-before attempt of its kind.

Guernia, a local theatre group, took the novel initiative to focus on the growing social divide between the affluent and the poor, the director of the play, Himanshu Das, said.

"We brought together so many artistes also in an effort to encourage them to take keen interest in the performing arts, thereby enriching the cultural atmosphere in the state," Das said.

He said the group had in the past attempted to highlight burning issues in society through the medium of theatre and this time the focus was on the disparity prevailing between the rich and the underprivileged.
