After much delay, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), on Saturday took possession of a medical shop operating from the campus of Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital. The shop will soon be handed over to the cooperative department for sale of medicine.

“We have received consent from the cooperative department and accordingly the shop located at the hospital OPD has been evacuated,” said the concerned zone deputy commissioner, Birbal Singh.

The shop was leased to a pharma vendor by the hospital at a considerable price in alleged violation of land allotment agreement with the government.

The hospital was allotted the land on discounted rates for non profit operations and was reportedly drawing several crore rupees from the lease of over 20 such properties at the campus. The hospital administration though has denied of any discrepancy and states that the lease of properties was documented and taxes were paid accordingly.

Even as the hospital is located adjacent to JDA head office, the authority only came into action after Lokayukta took cognizance of the issue. The officials are still hesitant in action against the hospital. The officials state that notices have been issued to all such commercial activities for closure, however, deny of immediate action sighting convenience to patients.

The hospital has also been charged with unauthorised construction at the campus. The authority seeks provisions to regularise it on behalf of an application made by the hospital administration. The JDA leniency is being associated with the reports of the influence of few ministers in favour of the hospital.
