Pintu Devi has appealed in the family court of Jodhpur, with the help of an NGO Saarthi, to annul her child marriage after 12 years. She got married at the age of 6 years and is suffering from continuous threats from her in-laws. Devi has appealed in the court to nullify the illegal wedlock. Taking Devi’s petition seriously, court has registered the case and has also issued notice to her husband.
The 18-year-old woman Pintu Devi, daughter of Sohan Lal Bishnoi and resident of Pithavas village, was married to a resident of Bandroad Saran Nagar in 2006. Devi’s in-laws were allegedly involved in criminal acts. They are also stated to threatining her and also imposed of caste penalties on her if she ends the child marriage. These continuous threats instilled fear in the mind of Devi’s parents.

The victim of child marriage Devi said, “I was married at a very young age and the in-laws were involved in criminal acts. Apart from this, I don’t want to go to the in-laws house due to many other reasons. Now, I have register the appeal to nullify the illegal wedlock and I am expecting to get rid of this child marriage soon.”
While speaking on the matter, Managing Trustee and Rehabilitation Psychologist of Saarthi Trust Jodhpur Dr. Kriti Bharti Sarathi said, “There was pressure of in-laws on Devi. As of now, we have filed a lawsuit in the court to nullify the child marriage. After this, other legal actions will also be taken against them. In addition, efforts are being made for better rehabilitation of Devi.”
