Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) chief Sachin Pilot has accused the Modi government of comprising on the interests of the ST/SC community and the Vasundhara Raje government for being a complete failure in curbing atrocities against the scheduled caste.

The Modi government was under attack for its alleged 'passive' approach in aftermath of the Supreme Court's ruling related to offences against the underprivileged. The apex court in its recent order had banned automatic arrest and registration of criminal cases for suspected offences against underprivileged communities.

The opposition had raised its voice against it and a delegation led by Congress president Rahul Gandhi met President Ramnath Kovind. Also, BJP MPs belonging to ST/SC gave a representation on the same to Prime Minister Narandra Modi, following which the Center decided to file a review petition on the order in the apex court.

"The central government failed to advocate its stand in the aftermath of the apex court's ruling, which may weaken provisions made in the ST/SC act. Organisations associated with the ST/SC have given a call for Bharat Band on Monday. The government should take this seriously and act swiftly to protect their rights. It is necessary that the government give a factual report in the court," said Pilot in a statement on Sunday.

In the neighbouring state, Gujarat, a Dalit was allegedly killed for owning own and riding a horse by people belonging to the upper caste. This has given ammunition to Congress to take on the Gujarat Model of Development which is much-hyped by BJP leaders. Pilot did not mention the incident in his statement, however, made a veiled attack on the Raje government for growing atrocities against the underprivileged.

"Atrocities against Dalits are at their peak under the BJP's rule and several schemes meant for their welfare have been paralysed deliberately. Eligible beneficiaries are not getting due benefits under various schemes such as scholarship and others. Also, crimes against Dalits are growing with every day and people belonging to this section are angry with the government for its inactivity in curbing such incidents," Pilot added.
