A catch-22 situation for Gujarat University students caught in the dilemma of whether to sit for the exams or make their varsity proud by winning West Zone Youth Festival in Udepur. Incidentally, the dilemma arises from the fact that dates for examination and the youth festival - both slotted for the first week of December - are clashing.
To enable students participate in the west zone youth festival in Udepur and also help them by not missing the exams, a delegation comprising 10 students made a representation to the Vice Chancellor, Parimal Trivedi to find a working solution for them. According to the students, examination starts from December 1 to December 9, while the youth festival too has been scheduled from December 5-9.
According to Adhip Patel, pursuing MSc from St Xavier’s College who is participating in the cartooning competition scheduled to be held on December 5, also has his examination on the same day. “We are clueless on what to do. Since we are representing the GU, we hope that the authorities will help us and arrange a re-test or something suitable for us,” he said.
Students allege that the authorities knew about the matter a month ago, though they did not do anything about it. “There are many students who are facing the same problem. Udepur is also from 4 hours drive so it is not possible for them to participate in competition and come back for exam here,” said Mahendra Chaudhary, a student representative.
The V-C, however, did not confirm any action for the students till filing of the report. Students plan to meet him again on Monday.
