More money for more speed! The official rates of tea, breakfast and meals have shot up in the hi-speed, non-stop Duronto trains. The railway board issued a fresh circular of revised rates on September 14, hiking the prices of meals and tea.

While tea used to earlier cost Rs5, it will now cost Rs6. for The price of breakfast has been raised by Rs2 from existing Rs30 to Rs32 and the price for lunch/dinner has been hiked to Rs48 from Rs42.

The Duronto Express trains, premier class trains, are projected to be the fastest trains between the particular pair of cities they serve, although it may not necessarily be true for all services.
The circular 46 of 2011 issued by the commercial department also states that a seven per cent cushion charge will be included in the ticket fare in order to provide extra services in case of late running/diversions.

The special feature of Duronto trains is that they run non-stop from source to destination, barring technical halts. Several Duronto Express services connect the major cities and state capitals.
